FEBRUARY 8 MEETING STARTS EARLY: COME AT 6PM
Rachel Ross, the education outreach director for Las Cumbres Global Telescope Network, will show us how to use the free Stellarium desktop planetarium software at this meeting. The software can be used to plan observing sessions. She will also introduce us the resources of the LCO network. This meeting will begin at the observatory at 6pm and then move to the computer lab at French Camp. This meeting will be part of “Bringing Astronomy to the Classroom” workshop

“Spring Backyard Astronomy” 7pm Friday evenings in March, 2008. We’ll have a different speaker each session: Tim Rich, from Rust College, Gary Lazich from the Davis Planetarium, David Teske from Louisville and Jim Hill will be presenters. NEWS FROM THE HILL
The weather has been typical Mississippi winter with lots of clouds lately so observing has been sporadic. Delivery of the new scope is still on schedule for the last week in March and we still need to put the 20 and 32 inch scopes back in operation if there is ever a free weekend.

Saturn Explorer: JPL has put up an interactive program so you can take a virtual tour of Saturn as seen from the Cassini spacecraft. It takes about 15 meg of space to install, but it’s worth it now that Saturn is in the evening sky. Check it out at http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/multimedia/CASSIE/
